Great Ideas!: What to do in Las Vegas

An urban passport to explore Latin, Caribbean, West Indian, Diaspora music, food, arts and culture in the heart of Las Vegas

The 4th annual Las Vegas Taste of The Caribbean, a local urban passport to explore Latin, Caribbean, West Indian, Diaspora food, music, arts and culture, is scheduled to be held on Saturday April 21st, 2019 in downtown Las Vegas. The event features exquisite cuisines from countries including Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Belize, Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela to name a few. In addition to the tasty and delicious food featuring jerk chicken, curry goat, doubles, roti, arroz con pollo and pastelitos, event attendants are treated to the tropical musical genres of Soca, Reggae, Reggaeton, AfroBeats, Merengue, Chutney, Punta Rock and world music.

Las Vegas Taste of the Caribbean is the continued celebration of the city’s legacy of music, food, cultural expression and diversity. As the Entertainment Capitol of The World, the city of Las Vegas is also known as the “Latin, Caribbean and West Indian Cultural Capital in the Desert” thanks in part to a diverse fusion from Latin America, the Caribbean and West Indies. The aim is to provide festival attendants with a culturally uncanny exotic, spicy, elegant and tropical experience of the region.

“The event is about promoting the Caribbean, Latin culture and bringing awareness to the general public’, said Las Vegas Latin Caribbean Festival Marketing Director, Keith Oliver.

According to a published population report sponsored by the Nevada Department of Taxation in cooperation with the Nevada Small Business Development Center, 6% of the Nevada’s population is of Caribbean descent. With the recent influx, there are more descendants from Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Dominican Republic, Virgin Islands and Central American Caribbean Coast.
